August 2024 Edition

Youth in Need Deserve Care Indeed

Lake County Youth in Custody Will Be Housed Primarily in Mendocino County

Lake County’s Youth will again be primarily housed in neighboring Mendocino County and will have access to the latter’s valued and excellent services. The collaboration between our two counties creates an environment aligned with Lake County Probation’s beliefs: where all people are treated with dignity and respect; are given the opportunity to change; and where all of us promote and maintain a safe and thriving community.

Youth in Need Deserve Care Indeed

Beginning on June 26, 2024, Lake County’s youth in custody will be primarily housed in Mendocino County. Lake County Probation’s purpose is to offer hope of a more productive lifestyle for youth on supervision and to continually improve the quality of community life. Lake County Probation takes its responsibility very seriously of caring for youth in custody after they have been arrested by law enforcement.

Youth In Need Deserve Care Indeed

When Lake County Juvenile Hall closed in 2015, Lake County Probation contracted with Mendocino County for the housing of our youth in custody. Two years later in 2017, due to failed contract negotiations, Lake County Probation relocated our youth in custody to Tehame County in their best interests. In these seven years, Tehama County Juvenile Hall has been gracious and cooperative to serve as the primary location for housing our youth. Lake County Probation also cooperated as needed with Butte County, Mendocino, and Tri-County Hall in Yuba County for their facilities.

This year, Lake County Probation is grateful and excited to partner again with Mendocino County Probation on the housing of Lake County’s youth in custody. Mendocino County’s facilities have programming and services available to youth that are thorough, local and in alignment with Lake County Probation’s commitment to continually improve the quality of community life by enhancing public safety and offering the hope of a more productive lifestyle for individuals on supervision.

Lake County Probation would also like to extend its gratitude to Tehama, Butte and Yuba for assisting with meeting the needs of the youth and providing valued and excellent services.
