Transforming Lives Through Local Collaboration
Justice-Involved Individuals Find Resources and Pathways to Success Through Local Collaboration
Lake County Probation, in partnership with Woodland Community College, hosted the “Lake County Resilient Re-Entry” event, highlighting success stories from justice-involved individuals, providing access to critical services, and demonstrating the power of resilience and community support.

The Lake County Department of Probation actively works to improve the quality of community life by enhancing public safety, acknowledging staff accomplishments, assisting victims, and offering the hope of a more productive lifestyle for individuals on supervision.

The Lake County Department of Probation champions second chances while supervising and supporting individuals in custody. On October 10, 2025, the 4th Annual “Lake County Resilient Re-Entry: Resources and Pathways to Success” highlighted that re-entry is a journey of perseverance, community support, and safety. Attendees heard inspiring stories from individuals who overcame challenges and achieved remarkable accomplishments despite life’s curve balls. Woodland Community College provided a welcoming space, allowing participants to connect with resources, meet experts, and celebrate resilience and possibility.

The event featured local organizations and service providers offering essential resources:
Speaker panel sharing personal success stories
Help with record expungement
College and adult education information
Job training and employment assistance
Mental health and wellness services
Housing support
Civil and social service experts staffed booths throughout the day to guide participants toward these opportunities, provide mentorship, and offer encouragement, highlighting the importance of community support and access to tools and knowledge for long-term success.

Panel speaker Dustin Lawson shared his inspiring story. Born with cystic fibrosis, he faced significant health challenges but refused to let them define his future:
“This is what resilience looks like,” he told the audience. “It takes courage to rise above life’s obstacles. I am a proud father, a student, and someone in long-term recovery.” Lawson encouraged attendees to explore exhibition booths, where organizations offered programs in education, employment, and support, reinforcing how community connections and guidance are essential for rebuilding lives and achieving personal goals.

Reflecting on the event, Lake County Probation Chief Probation Officer Wendy Mondfrans shared, “This year’s Resilient Reentry was a fantastic event! Throughout the day individuals inspired those in attendance with their incredible stories of resilience, transformation, and impact. The message was clear that with a desire to change, this community is ready to help people make a difference in their lives. We are thankful for the team that helped put the event together and look forward to more successful events in the future.”

The event’s message of resilience was echoed by District 2 Supervisor Bruno Sabatier, who shared his own personal story of overcoming adversity. He emphasized, “Change is not easy and people have to want to change, but they also need the support of the community and support networks to make it possible.”

The event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the following:
The Lake County Probation Department
Officers
Local educational institutions
Workforce development programs
Social service agencies within the community
Their dedication ensures that those seeking a fresh start have access to the guidance and tools necessary for a successful transition, all while promoting community safety. These partnerships are crucial in helping individuals build brighter and safer futures for themselves and their families.
Reintegration into society comes with obstacles, but access to the right support can make all the difference. California Probation connects individuals with tools, guidance, and community resources.
