Cobb Area Pavement Rehabilitation Project to Restore Roadways Damaged by 2015 Fires

Project Restores Roadways Damaged by Fires

The 2015 Valley Fire consumed 76,067 acres and destroyed 1,955 structures, making it the 3rd most destructive fire in California’s history. The Public Works Department is now working to reconstruct 16 miles of pavement damaged by the Valley Fire and subsequent rebuilding efforts.

On April 8, 2025, the Lake County Board of Supervisors awarded a $5.1 million agreement to Argonaut Constructors, Inc., to complete the “2024 Pavement Rehabilitation Project,” which will reconstruct 16 miles of Cobb Area pavement damaged by the 2015 Valley Fire. The project is funded by the State Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account (known as SB1).

2-0525.2 Construction Workers Repairing Road

A large-scale project such as the 2024 Pavement Rehabilitation Project requires various types of work including full-depth reclamation of existing County maintained roadways; grading; hot mix asphalt pavement (HMA), double chip seals, aggregate base, shoulder backing, drainage control infrastructure; asphalt concrete conforms and Portland cement concrete (PCC) driveways and intersections; and adjustments to existing manholes, vaults, boxes and covers to “finish grade.”

The County of Lake would like to thank everyone for working to make this important recovery project possible. Special thanks to Assistant Engineer, Pablo Pantaleon, for his exceptional work as the Project Manager for the 2024 Pavement Rehabilitation Project!
